Holy Redeemer
The Church of the Holy Redeemer holds a distinctive position in York's history for two reasons. Firstly, it was the inaugural parish church constructed in the city following the devastation of World War II. Secondly, it incorporates stones from the historic St Mary the Elder church in Bishophill, which were masterfully integrated into the design by renowned architect George Pace. This combination of modern construction and ancient materials makes the Church of the Holy Redeemer a unique testament to York's rich religious history and resilience.
