St Mary & St Peter
The Church of St Mary and St Peter, a historical gem from the 12th Century, was established by Benedictine monks, who also founded the adjacent Priory. One of its unique features is the unusually elongated chancel, adorned with stone seating along its walls. This is where the monks would have gathered for their religious services.
The churchyard is home to a yew tree that has stood the test of time for over 1,600 years. Inside the church, one can admire the exquisite Jacobean pulpit, a fine piece of craftsmanship dating back to 1610.
In the north chapel, visitors are greeted by a stunning 'Bee and Butterfly' stained glass window. This beautiful piece was installed as a replacement for a window that tragically fell victim to a fire in 2002. The church of St Mary and St Peter is not just a place of worship, but a testament to history and artistry, inviting everyone to appreciate its timeless beauty.
