St Mary
The current site was first home to a church following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, a significant event that took place during the Henrician Reformation. This event led to the dissolution of Cartmel Priory, a prominent religious institution of the time. In the wake of this dissolution, around 1537, a chapel was constructed on this very site. The materials used for the construction of this chapel were sourced from the now-dissolved Cartmel Priory, thereby preserving a piece of its historical significance.
