St Mary
St Marys' Church, located in the heart of Oldswinford, serves as a significant spiritual and physical landmark. The church offers a warm and inviting atmosphere for traditional Anglican worship. St Mary's holds a special place in the history of Stourbridge, being its mother church. The church's history dates back to at least the 10th century, with a church structure standing on this site since then.
The only remaining part of the original medieval church is the fourteenth-century west tower, a testament to the church's rich history. However, the spire, a significant feature of the church, was removed in 1982. The church has undergone several renovations over the centuries. The nave, the central part of the church, was reconstructed in 1842, and the east end of the church was extended in 1898, enhancing its architectural grandeur.
The west gallery of the church still stands today, offering a glimpse into the church's past. However, the side galleries, which once added to the church's architectural charm, were removed in 1955. Despite these changes, St Marys' continues to stand as a beacon of faith and history in Oldswinford, welcoming all who wish to partake in its traditional Anglican worship.
