St Mary
In 1334, a chantry was established at this location by John de Harrington. This religious institution provided the chaplain and his assistant with the means to sustain themselves. In return, they were obligated to perform daily prayers for the salvation of the souls of their benefactor, John de Harrington, and his family members. This act of founding a chantry was a common practice during that period, reflecting the deep religious beliefs and the desire to secure spiritual well-being for oneself and one's family.
