The Blackbird
Situated in the heart of the Blackbird Leys estate, you'll find a charming, two-roomed pub. This estate has a rich history, with its farm once owned by James Morrell, a member of a renowned brewing family, during the latter half of the 19th century. However, in 1895, the farm was sold to the city council. Fast forward to the 1960s, the area underwent significant development, transforming into a council housing estate. This transformation was primarily to accommodate workers from the burgeoning car industry nearby and residents from St Ebbe's in the city centre, which was undergoing redevelopment at the time. Adding to the estate's charm and serving as a social hub for its residents, the pub officially opened its doors on December 13, 1962. Since then, it has been a central part of the community, offering a warm and welcoming space for locals and visitors alike.
