Constructed in 1892, this establishment has a rich history, having been previously owned by Fremlins, Whitbread, and Ei, and is currently under the management of Stonegate. In 2007, the establishment reverted to its original name after being known as the Elephant from around 1988, the Hogshead from 1994, and Jordan from 2002. This venue retains its authentic local charm, untouched by modern gentrification. The interior design is rustic, featuring faux wood beams on rough plaster, wooden chairs, and tables, some of which are creatively fashioned from old barrels. The establishment also boasts a narrow, walled patio garden at the rear, providing a quaint outdoor space for patrons to enjoy. The venue hosts a variety of events throughout the week. Every Monday, starting at nine, there is an acoustic jam session, providing a platform for local musicians to showcase their talent. Additionally, every Wednesday, the establishment hosts a quiz night, offering a fun and engaging activity for patrons to participate in.
