Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution
Established in 1824, the Bath Literary and Scientific Institution, later known as the 'Royal', has a rich history that can be traced back to Bath societies of the 1770s. Initially, the institution was housed in a specially constructed building near Bath Abbey. However, due to a 20th-century road development project, the institution had to relocate. Today, it is situated in Queen Square, a location that was once the residence of Dr. William Oliver. Dr. Oliver, a significant contributor to Bath's development in the early 18th century, is renowned for inventing the Bath Oliver biscuit. The institution's journey from its inception to its current location is a testament to its resilience and commitment to promoting literature and science.
