Queen of Hope Street
In September 2023, a previously refurbished restaurant was transformed into a pub. The restaurant, which originally opened its doors in March 2016, was located in the former Josephine Butler building. Unfortunately, this historic building was demolished by developers due to an incorrect listing, paving the way for the construction of student accommodation. The legacy of Josephine Butler, however, continues to live on in the area. One of the suitcases displayed in the 'Case History' exhibition, located further down Hope Street, belongs to her. This exhibition serves as a reminder of the rich history and notable figures that have shaped the area. Despite the changes, the spirit of the past continues to resonate in the present.
