Counting House
Established in 1884 as Leatham, Tew and Company Bank, the establishment was later acquired by Barclays in 1906 and renamed Transatlantic House. Over the years, it has undergone a significant transformation and is now a pub featuring two distinct, smartly designed open plan areas. During its conversion into a pub, original Minton tile work and intricate glasswork were discovered and subsequently restored, adding a touch of historical charm to the establishment. These original features are beautifully complemented by replica Venetian ceilings and original woodwork, creating an atmosphere that blends the old with the new. In addition to its pub offerings, Transatlantic House also provides hotel-style accommodation, catering to a variety of guest needs. In a recent development, as of April 2019, the establishment has been sold and has transitioned into a sports bar. The bar primarily serves a selection of lagers, catering to sports enthusiasts and beer lovers alike. This establishment's journey from a bank to a sports bar, with its rich history and architectural charm, makes it a unique spot for both locals and visitors.
