It is a place steeped in history, as evidenced by a plaque commemorating Joe Payne, a local legend born next to the pub. Payne holds the unique distinction of being the only Football League player to score 10 goals in a single game. This remarkable feat occurred in April 1936, when his team, Luton Town, triumphed over Bristol Rovers with a staggering 12-0 score. In addition to its rich history and upcoming food offerings, the pub also hosts a quiz night every Monday, adding to its charm and appeal.
