Ox & Gate
Located on the north side of Gladstone Park, you'll find a large, community-focused establishment that was once known as the Ox & Gate. This name was a nod to the original Ox Gate Farm building, which sadly, is now in a state of disrepair and stands diagonally opposite. The venue has been rebranded and is now known as Whelans, a part of a new Irish brand roll-out. Whelans aims to provide a traditional Irish experience, offering a variety of food and beverages. Patrons can enjoy traditional Irish food and whiskies, as well as a selection of wines and craft beers. The venue also serves breakfast and snacks, making it a great spot for any time of the day. For sports enthusiasts, Whelans has screens for live sports viewing. Additionally, it offers live music for those who enjoy a bit of entertainment with their meals. On Sundays, the venue serves roasts from 12 noon to 7 pm, providing a perfect end to the week. Despite its many offerings, Whelans' attempt to sell real ale was unsuccessful, resulting in three unused handpumps. Nonetheless, with its wide range of other offerings, Whelans continues to be a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.
