Walnut Tree
The Walnut Tree, a traditional pub located in the center of the village, is a Grade 2 listed building with a rich history dating back to the 16th century. It has served as a public house since 1890, previously known as the Bell, and now takes its name from the Walnut Tree that graces its front. The village of Appleshaw, where the pub is situated, has a notable history of its own. In 1658, it was granted the privilege of hosting two annual fairs, which subsequently became a significant competitor to the renowned Weyhill sheep fair. Adding to the pub's charm is its connection to cricket legend W.G. Grace, who once played cricket here using a bat crafted from Wallop willow. This blend of historical significance and local charm makes the Walnut Tree a unique and cherished part of the community.
