Duke Of Wellington
The current name of the pub is a tribute to the appointment of the Duke as Prime Minister. The area of Haggerston has a rich history, as it is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Originally, it was known as Hergodstone, named after Hergod, a local Saxon leader. Hergod is remembered for establishing a stone memorial in the region.
