Talbot Inn
Located near the Swinford Bridge, the charming riverside inn, originally built in 1776, offers a glimpse into the past. It was likely constructed around the same time as the bridge, adding to its historical significance. In 1836, the inn was renamed the Talbot, a name derived from a now extinct breed of hound. However, it was commonly known as the Wharf Inn, a nod to its location and function. By the end of the 19th century, the Oxford Canal Co. owned the inn. The tenant at the time was tasked with managing the wharf and weighbridge, further emphasizing the inn's integral role in the local community. Today, visitors can enjoy seating at the front of the inn, overlooking the road, or opt for the riverside patio on the side. This quaint establishment offers a unique blend of history and charm, making it a must-visit destination.
