The Royal Oak
Situated in the heart of the village, this historic pub, constructed from stone, has a rich history dating back to 1168. Originally, it was established as a residence for the masons who were building the local church. One of its notable features is the expansive inglenook, which includes rungs leading to a secret hideout. This pub has seen its share of historical figures, including officers from Cromwell's army who frequented the establishment following the Battle of Edgehill. In its earlier days, it was a Hook Norton pub, but it has since become a free house. The pub underwent a complete refurbishment and was reopened in 2017, breathing new life into this ancient establishment. Its commitment to quality and service has not gone unnoticed. In 2021, it was awarded its first Michelin Star, a testament to its exceptional culinary offerings. This historic pub seamlessly blends its rich past with modern comforts, offering a unique experience for its patrons.
