Originally known as the Cradle and Coffin, it offers a peaceful and friendly environment, free from the disruption of noisy machines, allowing patrons to enjoy the art of conversation. Traditional games such as shove ha'penny and cribbage are played here, adding to the pub's charming, old-world ambiance. The pub also showcases a collection of fishing and shooting paraphernalia, displayed in cabinets on the wall, reflecting its patrons' interests and the local culture. The establishment was initially acquired by local brewers Isherwood, Stacey & Foster, before being taken over by Fremlins in 1958. This change in ownership has not affected the pub's commitment to providing a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for its customers.
