Strafford Arms
The Strafford Arms, a prominent pub located in the heart of the town, has a rich history dating back to 1727. Originally a leading coaching inn, it was named in honor of Sir Thomas Wentworth, the Earl of Strafford. The establishment, which was once situated in Market Place, underwent significant renovations in 1876 and again in the 1980s. The Strafford Arms holds a special place in the community as it was the founding location of the Wakefield Rotary Club in 1921. This club was the 46th of its kind to be established in the British Isles. Additionally, the Wakefield Historical Society held its inaugural meeting at the Strafford Arms in 1924, further cementing the pub's significance in local history. The operating hours of the Strafford Arms are in accordance with the permissions granted by its license at the time of compilation. This establishment is not just a pub, but a testament to the town's rich history and community spirit.
