The Golden Slipper
The Slipper Pub is a charming, well-preserved establishment with a rich history dating back to the 15th or 16th century. Its Victorian brick façade, added in the 19th century, enhances its historical charm. The pub offers four distinct seating areas for patrons to enjoy, including a cozy snug and a library. One unique feature of the pub is a coffin drop located in the snug. This was used to pass bodies outside through a side passage before neighboring buildings were constructed. This intriguing detail adds to the pub's unique character and historical significance. In 1984, during renovation work, a medieval leather slipper was discovered. This artifact, now on display, is the inspiration behind the pub's name - The Slipper Pub. This discovery further emphasizes the pub's deep-rooted history and connection to the past, making it a fascinating destination for both locals and tourists.
