The Royal Oak
The Royal Oak is a spacious, privately-owned free-house, with a history dating back to the mid-19th century. It is known for its welcoming atmosphere and friendly service. However, due to a decrease in demand, the establishment stopped serving real ale a few years ago. The interior of the Royal Oak features a simple public bar, distinguished by a central brick pillar, and a cozy lounge area for guests to relax in. Notably, the Royal Oak Boxing Club, which counted Jack Bodell among its members, was originally established and based in the upstairs area of this establishment. While the boxing club continues to thrive, it has since relocated and now holds its meetings at a different location.
