The Half Moon Inn
The Half Moon Free House has been a cornerstone of the Newton Upon Derwent community since 1743. Initially, it was a single-storey building with a thatched roof, but by 1904, it had evolved into its current form. Further renovations were carried out in the 1930s to enhance its appeal. The Half Moon has a rich history, serving as a venue for inquests in the 1800s. From 1852 onwards, it became the host site for the Newton Agricultural Shows, which were held in its spacious grounds. These events culminated in a grand village dinner, complete with numerous toasts, marking a delightful end to the day.
