Spread Eagle
The establishment in question is a substantial public house constructed in the interwar period, specifically in 1936. It was originally built for Butlers, following designs by the architectural firm Lavender & Twentyman. Over the years, the interior layout of the pub has undergone several changes. In 1966, the three separate rooms at the front of the pub were merged into a single space. However, a decade later in 1976, a wall was re-erected to divide this area back into two rooms. In 1996, the pub underwent a significant transformation when it was converted into a Harvester Inn, with a renewed focus on its food offerings. As part of this change, the rooms at the front of the pub were once again combined into one large space. Today, the establishment is a part of the Generous George chain of pubs. Despite the various changes it has seen over the decades, the pub continues to be a significant local landmark, testament to its enduring appeal and adaptability.
