Duke of York
The establishment, originally known as the Duke of York, was constructed in 1890 as a replacement for the previous structure on the same site. After serving as a pub for many years, it closed its doors in 1960 and was subsequently sold to Williams Deacon Bank. The building was then utilized for various office-based businesses for the next 35 years until it ceased operations in 1995. The following year, in May 1996, the establishment was given a new lease of life when Pubmaster reopened it as the Tap & Spile, a real ale free house. Following a recent refurbishment, the establishment has now returned to its original name, honoring its rich history.
