Patten Arms
This authentic, standalone free house is conveniently located on a B-road, away from the hustle and bustle of nearby villages, yet it still enjoys a steady stream of local patrons. The building, a Grade II-listed structure, dates back to the early 19th century, or possibly 1860, and exudes a charming, country pub ambiance. The interior features a single bar area, complete with high-backed bench seats, cream-colored walls, and inviting open fires, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere. In addition to the bar, the establishment also boasts a separate restaurant for those seeking a more formal dining experience. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the terraced seating area, which offers a picturesque view of a bowling green. In 2019, the owners added a small brewery in the cellar. However, this feature is currently inactive. Despite this, the free house continues to offer a unique blend of history, comfort, and charm, making it a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
