Otter Inn
Located near the River Eden, this unique establishment was the only pub in the region that remained independent from State Management control from World War 1 until the early 1970s. Previously known as the Haywain, the pub has undergone some changes over the years, including an expansion of the bar area. However, it has managed to retain its distinctive charm and character. The pub is not just a place for drinks and conversation, but also a hub for community activities. It occasionally opens on Thursday evenings for monthly quiz and darts nights, offering a fun and engaging environment for patrons. Additionally, the pub hosts the local leek show, further cementing its role as a central part of the community. Despite the changes it has undergone, this pub remains a beloved local institution, continuing to serve its patrons and the community with its unique blend of history, charm, and camaraderie.
