The Knatchbull Arms
The quaint village inn, a Grade II listed building, has been a welcoming community hub since its construction in the 17th century. It boasts a rich and diverse history, with one of its most notable events being a clandestine meeting in 1942. This gathering is believed to be the largest secret assembly of high-ranking military officers during World War II. The attendees included prominent figures such as General Montgomery, Air Chief Marshal Wavell, and the future U.S. President, Dwight D. Eisenhower. This intriguing piece of history, however, remains a subject of speculation.
