The Bell Inn
The charming village pub, now operating as a Free House, is meticulously maintained and upholds its traditional aesthetic. It offers a selection of local ales, including those from the renowned Tonbridge Brewery. The pub also features an outdoor seating area and a garden at the rear, complete with a Bat & Trap pitch for guests to enjoy. This pub is not just a place for refreshments and leisure, but also a site of historical significance. On October 20, 1852, it served as the venue for an inquest following a tragic incident at the nearby Hartlake bridge. A cart carrying hop-pickers unfortunately crashed into the swiftly flowing river, resulting in the drowning of 30 individuals. This tragic event is commemorated with a memorial in Hadlow Church. The pub continues to stand as a reminder of this event, adding a layer of historical depth to its traditional charm.
