The Five Bells

This quaint pub, tucked away on a small back street, dates back to the 1800s and was originally two separate cottages. The establishment features a cozy bar area with a low ceiling, adding to its old-world charm. An interesting feature is its outdoor men's restroom, a nod to simpler times. In the 1950s, the pub was managed by an individual named Ratty Webb. Webb was not only a pub keeper but also offered his services as a rat catcher, a unique combination that certainly added character to the establishment. Additionally, this pub holds a significant place in history. The town of Seal, where the pub is located, was the site of the first hot air balloon ascent in England in 1825. This historical event adds an extra layer of intrigue to this already charming and character-filled pub.
