The Waggon Inn
Established in 1858, this family-operated Free House is renowned for its food offerings and welcoming atmosphere. The establishment features a spacious, split-level dining area that leads to a more intimate dining space, both frequented by patrons of all ages. Additionally, it houses a smaller public bar at the back, equipped with a pool table and darts board for entertainment. In the spring of 2014, the Free House underwent a significant makeover, which reintroduced flagstone flooring and bare walls, giving the space a more open and airy ambiance. Notably, the historic Bowes rope-hauled railway, a preserved local landmark, runs adjacent to the property.
