Free Gardeners Arms
This charming local pub, situated on a bustling street corner, boasts a rotating selection of four beers sourced both locally and from afar. Frequent features include brews from Lancaster, Deeply Vale, and Heritage. The pub's layout is partially open plan, with a pool table for patrons to enjoy, as well as a cozy snug equipped with a log burner for those colder nights. A unique feature of this pub is the original windows hidden behind the optics, each bearing the monogram 'WA'. This is a nod to the pub's historical roots, as it was once part of the estate of William Astley, a brewer based in Nelson. In 1924, Astley's business was acquired by Massey's of Burnley. To honor this history, the pub has a small exhibit of Massey artefacts displayed on a column in the middle of the bar. This not only adds a touch of nostalgia but also provides an interesting conversation starter for patrons. This pub, with its blend of history and modern amenities, offers a unique and enjoyable experience for all.
