The Cockpit
Situated on a historic corner site, this quaint pub has a rich history, having been adapted from one of the gateways of the Blackfriars Monastery. The most recent reconstruction took place around 1865. The pub's unique design mirrors the shape of a cockpit, a nod to its past, with prints of fighting cocks decorating the walls. In 1849, when cockfighting was outlawed, the pub was renamed the Three Castles, but it returned to its original name in 1970. Upon entering through the corner door, visitors are greeted by a cozy drinking area featuring a curved bar, located a few steps up. While the galleries above are not open to the public, they add to the pub's charm and character.
