The Refectory
In 2006, a historic establishment that originally opened its doors in 1916 was temporarily closed. However, it was not long before it was acquired by two Israeli businessmen and reopened in February 2007. The new owners undertook a thorough renovation of the property, completely overhauling the interior to give it a modern, upscale aesthetic. The refurbishment involved gutting the entire interior to create a fresh, contemporary look. The public room located upstairs was repurposed and is now used as a residential space. Despite these changes, the rear annex of the building was preserved and continues to operate as a nightclub. One notable change is that the establishment no longer offers hand-pumped beverages. Despite the extensive renovations and changes in operation, the new owners have managed to retain the building's historic charm while infusing it with a new, modern vibe. This blend of old and new has created a unique space that continues to serve its community.
